Some would say being Moldovan means loving our wine. Few things make a Moldovan prouder than a bottle of homemade wine. Others would say it means believing in God. Nine in ten Moldovans are Orthodox Christians, and no institution in the country is trusted more than the Church, not the army, not parliament, not the government.

Since 2023 I have gone back every year to Orthodox Easter and National Wine Day, and the longer I photographed them, the harder they became to tell apart. Both are rituals, kept with the same respect and enjoyed with the same abandon. In both, we are as Moldovan as we ever get.
